Role Overview 📝
The Night Charger is responsible for ensuring all vehicles correctly charged and ready for next-day operations (incl HGV). They must operate fairly independently, and so needs to be self-motivated and to work efficiently to a plan.
The role owns should escalate vehicle or charging issues quickly, and must operate with exceptional care to avoid damage or accidents.
The Night Charger also supports basic depot tasks during downtime.
This is a safety-critical night role with direct impact on fleet readiness and morning dispatch.
Responsibilities
Charge all vehicles overnight according to plan.
Safely move vehicles between yard, charging points, and parking locations.
Ensure all vehicle and charging issues are logged and escalated using standard inspection processes.
Drive vehicles carefully and defensively at all times; zero tolerance for accidents.
Plan charging sequences to accommodate longer charging times for HGVs
Monitor charging sessions to ensure vehicles are charging correctly
Use external charging infrastructure when required to maintain fleet readiness.
Safely move vehicles within the depot yard to and from charging points.
Assist with organising depot activity during overnight operations.
Support team coordination when acting in a supervisory capacity.
Support basic depot tasks (e.g. sortation, handling) when charging activity is complete.
Assist with moving equipment, organising cages, or general depot tasks.
Maintain safe working practices across all activities.
Support warehouse or depot teams during quieter periods if operationally required.
Maintain a clean, safe charging and yard environment.
Carry out minor overnight fixes where appropriate, such as:
Jump starting vehicles
Replacing or reconnecting 12V batteries
Inflating or replacing tyres (if trained)
Requirements
1-3 years’ experience operating in operational roles or vehicle-related roles.
Experienced, confident and safe vehicle handling, especially at night.
Comfortable working independently and following clear instructions.
High attention to detail and safety awareness.
Flexible, willing to support general depot tasks when required.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work night shifts.
Able to communicate effectively & build relationships & work cross-functionally
Valid HGV license may be required.
Valid van driving licences is be required.
Understanding of electric vehicle charging processes
Basic vehicle troubleshooting ability
